Over the years, from ages 15-22, I frequently wrote poetry that I scribbled in my journal, scratched on the back of dairy farm records, or jotted down on sticky notes as I taught school. These poems formed a record of a journey: spiritual, mental and emotional. Some are serious, some are humorous and some are nostalgic and “down home.”
At the age of 22, I gave in to a dream that had been dreaming for a long time, and self-published my first book of poetry. The process of publishing it took a long time. I sorted through the many poems I had written, trashing some and rewriting some. My mom’s cousin, Beulah Nisly, is a skilled photographer, and she kindly let me use her amazing photography to throughout the book. It came out in April of 2013, but because I left home for a foreign country not long after it was printed and because I was terribly unskilled in selling my book, not many copies sold.
I called it Echoes of Eternity, because I believe that the desires and longings and dreams we have on this earth are echoes of a greater calling and another more beautiful world. I believe each of us has eternity in our hearts, planted there at the beginning of our lives, and each of us, whether we realize it or not, long to reconnect with that eternity.
Currently I am offering this book at a reduced price, $6.99 (down from $9.99) with $2.50 shipping anywhere in the US or Canada. For other countries, higher shipping rates may apply. The softcover book contains 95 pages, featuring black and white photography. It is split into 4 different sections. Let Me Live features spiritual poetry, Moments, poetry that speaks of every day life, Dust and Wind, poetry that describes the beauty and barrenness of the Kansas countryside, and Beside the Way contains poems that God inspired from watching the lives of people around me. “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” Ecc. 3:11 NIV
